Another early WAwineman classic, 1st posted on September 12, 2008:
One thing about these work ‘strikes’ is that neither side looks good or ends up ‘winning’. Take Bellevue School District’s ‘we don’t have any more money to give’…now, it just added 0.5% to the pay. Isn’t that called lying? Then, there’s the Edmonds School District withholding hot lunches because those deadbeat parents are letting the debt go past $10. I think Mike Januik should let me continue to buy his Reserve wine, despite the buku-bucks I owe him. Hey, get back to real news, will ya? Okay, there is no truth to the rumor that the WAwineman is Paris’s new bff. And no, I refused her offer to do a video with her. Yes, there is some truth to another rumor that Jennie Garth was jealous of Shannon Doherty shopping with me down Rodeo Drive so she booted her off 90210. And there’s even more truth to the rumor I violently threw up after hearing Lauren Conrad of The Hills got a three book deal. Wth were they thinking??
(P.S. as of 9pm, the Bellevue School District reached an agreement with the striking teachers. They must have read this blog. The WAwineman should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize but I humbly ask that you instead drink a bottle of WA wine instead.)
As we head into this encore edition of Seattle’s indian summer, I just had to open this tootsie up. Kamiak is Gordon Brothers Cellars’ second label. And, oh what a second label it is. Located east of Pasco, the only other vineyard nearby is Charbonneau…and we all know that vineyard has Woodward Canyon’s fingerprints, so the site has excellent potential.
After some ownership changes, the family has returned and installed oenologist Tim Henley, formerly of Pine Ridge. Now, Pine Ridge has the same owner as Archery Summit of Dundee, OR, which is the producer of my super duper favorite grape, pinot noir. This is getting better and better. This is the third vintage of their white wine and it is a marvel of a value. This is a target match for Beecher’s Flagship cheese. Bulls-eye. So, needless to say, this will also work excellent with chicken and white turkey meat.
Nose: floral white petals, peach. Color: off-straw. Mouthfeel: light syrupy. Tail trail: 3 seconds. Flavors: Saturn peach, honey, melon, pineapple, and butterscotch.
Alcohol: 13.7%. A couple thousand cases. Chardonnay 60%, sauvignon blanc 35%, late-harvest gewurz 5%. Columbia Valley AVA. Rated: 85. Value: $18. Paid: $10. This is WAwineman…uncorked, uneducated but not uncouth.
