Another early WAwineman classic, 1st posted on March 31, 2008:
Another “sold-out” wine to review…is this painful for you to read? I recently reviewed the fine merlot from this winery so you can read the background, the ‘genetics’ if you will, on the people who created this little monster. Hey, I gave everyone a hint on where to find the wines from this winery so if you have read the recent hoots in the press and don’t have a bottle, it’s your snooze.
In the batter’s box tonight, an ode to Opening Day (and a Mariner’s victory), was a teriyaki-marinated chuck steak, with the bases loaded. First pitch, and swing and…a crusher to the gap in left field! And he clears the bases with a standup double! Yeah, that’s what it felt like when paired with this meat. A great start to the season.
Malbec…a Bourdeaux grape, specifically a Cahors majority now well exploited by the Argentines. Aka auxerrois. This is one beefy red. Solid nose of raspberries and blackberries. Mouthfeel…solid. Tail trail: 5 seconds of strength and endurance. Color: deep purple. I would almost describe this as ‘sexy’ but don’t bother asking me how to define that. Like a good swing in golf…it’s a feeling, hon. This was my first taste with a malbec and it certainly lived up to my hearty expectations. If the Argentines love it, why not I?
Alcohol: 13.9%. Columbia Valley AVA. Sold out on their website so hurry up and run to Metropolitan Market before I buy the rest of it. You think I’m kidding?!
Value: $25. Paid: $19. This is WAwineman…uncorked, uneducated, but not uncouth.
